Court Administrator Assessment

Colorado State Capitol

In late May 2026, the Office of the State Court Administrator released their Weld County Facility and Space Needs Assessment 20-Year Projections. While the assessment highlights several items the current court facilities adequately meet, it also outlines numerous areas of concern including:

  • Lack of secure paths of travel for judicial staff, including judges
  • Lack of necessary separation between public, private, and secure paths of travel
  • Lack of ADA accessible witness boxes in all courtrooms
  • Lack of adequate number of restrooms (and accessible restrooms)
  • Lack of adequate parking for jurors
  • Lack of adequate storage for exhibit/evidence items

The assessment, which formalizes conversations the county commissioners, their owner's representatives, and their design firms have had with 19th Judicial District court staff, the District Attorney’s Office, and the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, outlines the inadequacies of the county’s current facilities as well as the future needs the county must meet as  “…Weld County Courts and Probation are estimated to need approximately 226,000 additional gross square footage (GSF) to accommodate the need for the next 20 years.”
